The Jury’s Decision
The Festival of Monodrama and Mime is a special occasion that we have celebrated for 46 years, thanks to devotees and organizers who shape it and the artists who nurture monodrama like a unique theatre form. It is a great honor and responsibility to be a part of the jury. Art is not a competitive sport, so every ceremony sends a message to those deciding about the awards. This year, we have seen seven entirely different plays in content, form, choice of artistic devices, and creative expression. We have seen artists of all ages on the stage: Petar Božović, Nikolina Vujević, Nataša Petrović, Boško Puletić, Jugoslav Krajnov, Marija Đajić, Slobodan Beštić… And along with the audience, we have enjoyed their spirited performances. We are saddened that this year did not include any mime plays. We hope that the 47th Festival will continue the tradition at total capacity as the International Festival of Monodrama and Mime.
The jury of the 46th Festival of Monodrama and Mime consisting of Tatjana Mandić Rigonat, Ivan Perković, and Bojan Krivokapić, unanimously presents the “Ljuba Moljac-Miodrag Andrić” Award for the Best Actor/Actress to Nikolina Vujević for her authorial project “Nina”. Nikolina Vujević is the author of the text, the director, the songwriter, the costume designer, and above all, a young actress who invented the complex monodrama “Nina”. We enjoyed watching her play and her artistic braveries, the wealth of expression, imaginative stage solutions, and inventive connecting of Chekhov’s Nina from The Seagull with the fate of the contemporary actress seeking happiness and the meaning of acting.
The “Maja Dimitrijević” Golden Medal is unanimously awarded to Slobodan Beštić for his fascinating acting polyphonic performance in the play “Night Writer” directed by Jan Fabre. Slobodan Beštić, the actor-seeker, bravely and uncompromisingly explores the stage expression of an actor, revealing the most intimate spaces of a contemporary artist that Jan Fabre is. Beštić moves through the infinity of the artistic expression that, for him, represents a way to live his life on stage authentically, playfully, intellectually superior and outside of every cliché – time and time again. In Fabre, Beštić found his director and Fabre found his actor, the stage ego and alter ego. In short, they found each other, and they created a play to remember – one that’s in the spirit of the modern stage expression.
The Audience’s Jury Decision
With a unanimous vote, the audience’s jury declares Slobodan Beštić the winner of the “Siniša Dašić” Award for the monodrama “Night Writer” by Jan Fabre. With his interpretation and artistic energy surpassing all other participants, he brought his monodrama right to the top of the theatre artistry, which the audience rewarded with long applause as well. Therefore, Slobodan Baštić has received the “Siniša Dašić” Award as the best participant of the 46th Festival of Monodrama and Mime in Zemun. According to the audience’s jury vote, Nikolina Vujević, the author, director, and performer of the monodrama “Nina”, also attracted much attention from the viewers. Furthermore, Jugoslav Krajnov and his monodrama “Tea with Kublai Khan” also received thunderous applause. The jury stated that the audience was also captivated by Boško Puletić and his acting skills in the monodrama “Živojin Mišić”.
